Perlberg and Halpin ordered twelve 2-17C, twelve 0-18C, and three
2-17 labeled Special 1, Special 2, and Special 3.
The wholesale prices are:
2-17C $12.50
0-18C $15.00
2-17 Special 1 $13.50
2-17 Special 2 $15.50
2-17 Special 3 $16.50
We do not know the specifications for each. Note that the
$15 guitar is listed as a Style 18, while the slightly more
expensive $15.50 guitar ordered at the same time is a Style
17!
In the case of S.S. Stewart "Company" guitars made for Buegeleisen
and Jacobson, the "Style 17 Special" guitars had spruce tops, not
the usual mahogany tops of a Style 17. So in effect, all
bets are off!
We can say that $25, or $12.50 wholesale, was the standard price
for a Martin 2-17 at the time, which is the selling price of the
listed 2-17C.
The "Company Guitars" did have the single ring rosette, and more
elaborate binding before simplifying the trim and lowering the
price of the 2-17 for the Depression, so the guitar illustrated
may very well be a standard 2-17C.
